Professor emeritus Lars Hamberger(MD, PhD) Gothenburg University, Sweden was born in 1939. PhD in 1968 and specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1975. Professor and chairman in Ob Gyn since 1983(Karolinska Institute,Stockholm ) and from 1986 at Gothenburg University. Led the team responsible for the first Nordic IVF baby in 1982. Developed together with Dr Matts Wikland the ultrasound guided transvaginal oocyte retrieval (TVOR) technique in 1985. The team further reported the second term pregnancy in the world after ICSI in 1993 and the first successful PGD analysis in Scandinavia in 1997. In 2002 the reearch group reported the highest number of embryonic stem cell lines(18) in the world. Hamberger was one of the founding members of ESHRE and has published more than 600 papers within physiology, endocrinology and reproduction.Hamberger has contributed in scientific TV films one of them awarded with the Emmy price. Author of the book entitled "A Child Is Born" (editions 1990, 2003, 2009) together with the photografer Lennart Ni lsson. The book is translated to 18 languages.
