Lennart Treuel
Professor, Department of Physical Chemistry
University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany
Until 2005 Lennart Treuel studied chemistry and physics at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). Thereafter he started his PhD research on the phase behavior of complex organic/inorganic aerosols and the crystal structures resulting from their efflorescence in the workgroup of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Reinhard Zellner. During this period he received a stipend from the Max-Buchner-Science Foundation, several travel grants and an European Science Foundation (ESF) research grant. He also made prolonged research visits to Ilmenau, Heidelberg (Th. Leisner) and Bristol (J.P. Reid / ESF Grant). His thesis was awarded with the University’s PhD price and with the PhD price of the Centre for Water and Environmental Research (ZWU) in Essen after completion in 2008. Following his PhD thesis, he took up a position as post doctoral research fellow/group leader continuing his aerosol work and establishing a new group working o the interactions of nanoparticles with phase boundaries, membranes and biomolecules. This work is embedded in the priority programme SPP1313 (Bio-Nano-Responses) of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). His work is also partially funded by the UDE Young Researchers Grant.
