Dr. Leslie North is Assistant Professor of Geography at Western Kentucky University (WKU) and Associate Director of Education for the Hoffman Environmental Research Institute also at WKU. She earned her doctorate in Geography and Environmental Science and Policy from the University of South Florida, where she studied informal environmental education as it relates to karst landscapes and show cave tourism. Other research interests of Dr. North include quantifying anthropogenic disturbance to karst environments, water sustainability policy and practices, and instructional visualizations in formal and informal learning environments. She is actively engaged in research and education projects in the Caribbean (particularly Barbados), Belize, Western Europe, and China. Dr. North is Director of the Karst Field Studies program at WKU, former editorial assistant for the Southeastern Geographer, and developer of EnvrioLOS, a branch of the Hoffman Institute which specializes in developing environmental outreach materials, message branding, and logo design.Â
