After completing his bachelor degree of clinical medicine in Capital Medical University, Beijing in 1994, Dr. Yao was appointed resident doctor of surgery at the Beijing Chao Yang Hospital, Capital Medical University Hospital. After 3 years working as a surgeon he pursued a Masters in orthopaedics at the distinguished Beijing JiShuiTan Hospital, Peking University Medical Center. He also worked for one year after his Masters study as an orthopaedic surgeon in this hospital. In 2001, Dr. Yao went to UK to pursue a PhD in Biomedical science at the University of Aberdeen. He pursued his Postdoctoral research at National University of Ireland, Galway and Mayo Clinic, Rochester. In his postdoctoral work, he also travelled to EMPA federal laboratory in Switzerland to carry out the joint neural regeneration investigations. He started his current position as a tenure-track assistant professor in department of Biological Sciences, Wichita State University in 2011.
Electric fields guided brain neuron migration, spinal cord repair and regeneration and peripheral nerve repair and regeneration.
