Lothar Brecker
Deputy Director of the Studies Programme Chemistry
University of Vienna, Austria

Biography

After studying Chemistry at the University of Dortmund, Lothar Brecker earned his diploma in chemistry in 1993 with a thesis in Organic Chemistry. His dissertation under the supervision of Prof. W. Kreiser at University of Dortmund was supported by a PhD stipendium of the country North Rhine-Westphalia. It deals with synthetic natural product chemistry and finished 1996. For postdoctoral work Brecker went to Graz University of Technology in 1997, where he was working in the area of in situ NMR of biocatalyzed reactions. In 2000 he moved to the Research Center Borstel. There he was active on structural analysis of biomolecules. In 2002 Brecker went to University of Vienna, where he developed his group, which is active on NMR Spectroscopic research in Organic Chemistry. In 2007 he got his habilitation and in 2009 he took over the position as deputy head of the Department of Organic Chemistry. Since 2011 he is also deputy director of the Study Program Chemistry.
