Dr. Luan Truong professional activities are related to service, research, and teaching. In the service area, his responsibilities include general surgical pathology and cytopathology. He also serve as the medical director of the renal biopsy service at the Methodist Hospital, which handles about 400 renal biopsies per year.
My research interests involve surgical pathology and nephropathology. In the area of surgical pathology, I am interested in using the morphological approach to define new disease entities, to assess the natural behavior and to improve the diagnostic accuracy of known disease entities. To these purposes, traditional clinicopathologic observation is combined with novel immunohistochemical and molecular biology techniques to study case materials drawn from more than 30,000 surgical pathology specimens submitted to the Departments of Pathology of Baylor Affiliated Hospitals, annually. In the areas of clinical nephropathology, I am interested in assessing the pathogenesis and natural behavior of several specific renal diseases using clinicopathologic approach.
