Dr. Madeleine M. Joullie is a professor of chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania and the District III director of the American Chemical Society ACS. She joined the University of Pennsylvanias faculty as its first female instructor in 1953 and have been a full professor since 1974. The recognitions she received in the scientific field include: ACS Philadelphia Section Award, ACS Garvan Medal Scroll Award from American Institute of Chemists, Faculty Award from American Cynamid Lindback, Award for Distinguished Teaching Second Annual Association of American Women in SciencePhiladelphia, Chapter Award Philadelphia Organic Chemistry Club Award, ACS Henry Hill Award, ACS Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences and ACS Author Cope Scholar Award. She is a fellow of the New York Academy of Science as well as a member of Sigma Xi Sigma Delta Epsilon and the American Chemical Society. She was recently awarded the ACS Division of Organic Chemistry 2009 Edward Leete Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Research in Organic Chemistry. That same year she was elected to the 2009 Class of Fellows of the American Chemical Society.
