Biography

He is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. He obtained MBBS degree at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo (1998). Then shifted to the field of public health and obtained degrees of Masters of Science and Doctor of Medicine in Community Medicine in 2005 from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Colombo. In addition he read for a PG Diploma in Applied Sociology from University of Colombo. He completed a fellowship at the Graduate School of Public Health University of Pittsburgh, USA on health policy and health programme evaluation in 2006/2007.

Research Interest

His research interest are on health seeking behavior in marginalized groups, pharmaceutical utilization, evaluations of public health programs, adolescent health and on the impact of international trade agreements on public health. He has been involved in many research projects funded by international organizations including WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA and Health Action International. He uses both quantitative and ethnography in his research work. In addition he has served as a consultant for WHO in Myanmar and Maldives.
