Marina Gorbatyuk is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Vision Sciences, USA. Her entire scientific career, she have been working with animal models of inherited eye diseases caused by mutant retina-specific genes and have been studying the mechanism of retinal degeneration in order to design a gene therapy and treat this devastating disorders. The particular area of her scientific interest is focused on the study of the role of Unfolded Protein Response in the retinal pathogenesis caused by mutant rhodopsin. Specifically, she concentrates on the testing of the proof-of concept study that the modulation of the Unfolded Protein Response could be a Therapeutic Approach to treat retinal degeneration.
