Raised in Puerto Rico she earned a PhD in Political Science from theUniversity at Buffalo. Her current work seeks to understand under what conditionsstates choose to join international organizations and whatfeatures of these organizations make joining them moreattractive. As part of her doctoral research, she has createdan extensive and unique dataset, which promises to be asignificant contribution to research in the field of internationalorganizations. Dr.Vélez Serrano’s research andteaching interests also include comparative institutions,the developing world (with area expertise in LatinAmerica), and the relationship between internationalorganizations and domestic politics. She is a member ofthe American Political Science Association, New York Political Science Association. DrVélez-Serrano enjoys workingwith students of diverse backgrounds and being activelyengaged in the Buffalo community
