Mikhail Ya Melnikov

Biography

Mikhail Melnikov, born on 16.03.1946 in Moscow, USSR graduated from high school in 1964, got accepted to the Chemistry Department of the Moscow State University. While at high school he worked under professor I. M. Barkalov and academician V. I. Goldansky at the Institute of Chemical Physics, Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1962-1963). He has been working at the Chair of Chemical Kinetics since receiving the specialist degree in 1969. Head of the laboratory and D. Sci. since 1984, professor since 1991.He was tutored and mentored by brilliant scientists, such as assistant professor N. V. Fok, Nobel laureate N. N. Semyonov, academician N. M. Emanuel. He has received state and professional honours for his work in science. Counts 3 Doctors of Science, 11 PhD’s and more than 40 graduates among his pupils.he Is listed on the editorial advisory boards of several Russian and international journals.He is married to Olga Melnikova, PhD, who works at the Chemistry Department of the MSU. Son Sergey, 40, graduated from the Chemistry Department of the MSU, received his PhD at the University of Nagoya and MSU, and currently works in the Netherlands. Grandson, Denis, 15, born in Japan, and granddaughter Anna, 9, born in the Netherlands, are currently students at school.
 

Research Interest

Photochemistry and chemistry of active intermediates (radicals, radical cations, radical anions, carbenes, silylenes etc.), photochemistry and photophysics of co-ordination compounds in chemical and biological systems, chemical and biochemical kinetics, photochemical and thermal reactions on activated surfaces, catalysis, radiation chemistry, medical chemistry and pharmocology, nanochemistry, nonspecific biosensors.
