1. Molecular design of enzymes Enzymes can catalyze a wide diversity of chemical reactions with great efficiency. By computational biological techniques, combined with rational and semi-rational design, the evolutionary mechanism of activity, stability and substrate specificity has been studied extensively. In this way, we can promote the development of enzymes’ divergent evolution, which may have led to the highly proficient enzymes for industrial biocatalysis. 2. Enzymatic polymerization Using enzymes as catalysts, particularly combination with chemical catalysis, tailor-made functional polyesters were designed, constructed and evaluated as drug/gene delivery systems. The work will facilitate the applications of enzymes in the synthesis of biomedical polymers, and thus provide a green and eco-friendly route for the chemical industry.
