My research interests are in the area of in vitro fertilization, fertility and infertility, and contraception. Over ten novel genes have been discovered in the laboratory that are specifically expressed in human testis/ovaries. Based upon these genes, recombinant, DNA, and peptide vaccines are developed for reversible contraceptive vaccines for men and women. The findings of these projects have been extensively published. I have trained over 60 students, residents and post-doctoratal fellows, and over 130 undergraduate student workers. I have published over 200 peer-reviewed full length articles in reputed journals including Science, PNAS, and JCI, authored/edited 8 books, served on several study sections of the NIH, DOD, and various international funding agencies, and am presently on the editorial boards of eight journals. The research activities have been funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health and Child Development (NICHD/NIH) and various other agencies.
