Saiwei Yang

Dr. Yang was a doctoral fellow in the Department of Surgery-University Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and an assistant professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department, University of New York at the Stony Brook before he returned to Taiwan in 1987. He had been an associate professor at the Tamkang University since then and jointed the Institute of Biomedical Engineering –National Yang-Ming University in 1991. He also was a visiting professor at the Orthopedic Department, The Johns Hopkins University Medical School, USA, 1997/01~1997/06, a visiting professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, New Jersey Institute of Technology, USA, 1997/01~1997/06, and a visiting scholar of the Center for locomotors Study, The Pennsylvania State University, 1996/09~1996/12. Dr Yang has his specialties in Finite Element Analysis in Biomechanics, Footwear Biomechanics, Impact Injury, Motion Analysis and Posture Control, Rehabilitation Engineering device design. Researches are focused in the areas of Footwear Biomechanics and Design, Application the Augmented Reality in Rehabilitation, Spinal Research and Orthopedic Implant Design, Gerontechnology, Biobody Simulation. He has awarded 16 patents, 58 NSC funded projects, 28 industrially funded projects. He had his academic services as the director of Institute of Biomedical Engineering, NYMU: 2007~2010; the founding director of Department of Biomedical Engineering (the first National University founded undergraduate program), 2009; Director, Center for Biomedical Engineering Research, NYMU:2007~2013; Secretary general, the Society of Biomedical Engineering, ROC., 2003~2005; the president, Taiwanese Society of Biomechanics, 2010~2014. To promote the interdisciplinary research and higher education, he organized the first Biodesign-The Innovating Medtech Program in Taiwan since 2008. Dr Yang has organized many international conferences such as International Symposium on Biomedical Engineering combined with the annual scientific meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society of ROC, 2012; Australia-Taiwan Workshop on Bilateral Cooperation in Gerontechnology, 2010; The First Asia-Pacific Conference on Ankle-Foot and Footwear Biomechanics, 2010, etec.. Dr Yang has guided over 100 masters and PhD students, published over 120 conferences as well as SCI journal papers, and serves as associate editors and reviewers for several international well known SCI journals.
