Biography

Dr. Satomi Niwayama is a professor in Graduate School of Engineering, Muroran Institute of technology, Japan.  She has been recently awarded with Southwest Region American Society (ACS) Award. She received her PhD from the University of Tokyo Japan in synthetic organic chemistry in 1989. After completing postdoctoral appointments at The Ohio State University University of California at Los Angeles and Massachusetts Institute of Technology she assumed a position of Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University in 1998. The awards she has received include the Morita Science Research Promotion Award 2000, Banyu Award in Synthetic Organic Chemistry 2002, National Science FoundationCAREER Award 2003, Japanese Society for Process Chemistry Award for Excellence 2006 and the American Chemical Society PROGRESS/Dreyfus Lectureship Award 2007. She was a Visiting Professor at Yokohama National University Japan in 2008 and 2010 She has also been an editorial board member for two other journals Current Organic Synthesis and The Open Natural Products Journal.

 

Research Interest

Dr. Niwayama’s research interests pertain mainly to the development of environmentally benign organic reactions and synthetic methodologies, as well as bioorganic chemistry applying small organic molecules to solving biological problems.
