Dr. Sheela Sharma, senior research investigator in the Preclinical Prevention andToxicology Program at the Hamner, has been awarded $450,000 over a period of 18months from the National Cancer Institute and the University of Alabama Birmingham. Dr. Sharma is working with collaborators at the University of Alabama at Birmingham toidentify new cancer chemoprevention agents, chemical compounds used to prevent,stop, or reverse the development of cancer.
Dr. Sharma has developed relevant cell culture systems that allow for broad scaleEfficacy and toxicity testing, which will aid in the identification of chemoprevention agents.
