Dr. Shen Hu is tenured associate professor at the School of Dentistry and Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is an expert in the field of mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics of cancers and oral diseases. During his PhD and Postdoctoral training, Dr. Hu was working on single cell analysis of neurotransmitters, single cell proteome analysis and 2-D capillary electrophoresis. After he joined the UCLA, his lab is currently focusing on systems biologic analysis (proteomics and metabolomics) of head/neck cancer, pancreatic cancer and oral diseases using mass spectrometry, protein microarray and molecular biology approaches. Dr. Hu has published more than 80 research articles and book chapters. He is also the MS Graduate Program Director at the UCLA School of Dentistry where he is heavily involved in graduate student teaching and mentoring.
Dr. Hu's research interests are in the area of cancer proteomics/metabolomics focusing on understanding the molecular mechanisms and developing diagnostic/therapeutic applications using mass spectrometry and protein microarray technology. His lab is also studying oral diseases, single cell proteomics and stem cell biology.
