Assistant Professor, Centre for Electron Microscopy, Faculty for Medical Sciences
University of Cordoba, Argentina
Dr. Silvina Gutiérrez obtained her title of Specialist in Pathology at the National Hospital of Clinics, in Córdoba, Argentina. She continued her Ph.D. training at the Center for Electron Microscopy in the Faculty of Medical Sciences from the National University of Córdoba. She is currently appointed at the National Research Council of Argentina (CONICET) as an Assistant Research Scientist and as an Assistant Professor at the Center for Electron Microscopy.
Her research seeks to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms contributing to regulate the proliferation and secretion of the lactotroph cell population in the pituitary gland; particularly those related to the estradiol effects through intracellular and membrane estrogen receptors alpha and beta. A combination of several cell and molecular biology approaches, including electron microscopy, immunocytochemistry, and biochemical techniques to quantify different parameters of lactotroph cells functional activity, are currently being used in her studies. Dr. Gutiérrez major reports have contributed to clarify the complex regulation implicated in the homeostasis of pituitary cells populations under physiological and pathological conditions.
