Dr. Sriram Ayyaswamy is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Pathology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston. He will be promoted as a junior faculty member in the Department of Anesthesiology from May 2018. Having completing his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from University of Madras (India) in 2000, he moved to Germany where he did his Masters in Biobased Materials (M.Sc) from University of Reutlingen. In 2003 he moved to University of Halle where he worked on junctional proteins for 2 years and later obtained his Ph.D degree in molecular and cell biology from Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung research, Bad Nauheim, Germany. In 2010, he joined Baylor College of Medicine as a Postdoctoral Associate. He is a peer reviewer of several international scientific journals and is an invited speaker for several conferences.
Dr. Sriram Ayyaswamy’s main research focus is studying the molecular mechanism underlying vascular tumor formation and targeting these specific pathways to find potential therapeutic cures. His future interests will be further extended to examine be the role of the gut microbiota in cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases, including cerebral small vessel disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and hypertension.
