Steven Kass was born and raised in New York He went to Vassar College where he earned an AB degree with general and departmental honors Graduate studies at Yale University with Professor Kenneth Wiberg led to MS MPhil and PhD degrees along with the Wolfgang Prize in 1984 Postdoctoral studies at the University of Colorado ndash; Boulder with Professors G Barney Ellison and Charles H DePuy from 19841986 were followed by his appointment to the faculty in the Chemistry Department at the University of Minnesota where he rose through the ranks to Professor of Chemistry Awards include a University of Minnesota McKnight LandGrant Assistant Professorship and appointments as an Alfred P Sloan Research Fellow a visiting fellow at Australia National University and the University of New South Wales and a Minnesota Supercomputer Institute Fellow
