Suzanne K. Murrmann is a professor in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Virginia Tech where she specializes in human resource management and labor relations. She teaches in these areas as well as service management and theory development. She received her Ph.D. in Management from Virginia Tech, and holds a Masters in Labor and Industrial Relations from Michigan State University. She did her graduate research in the area of nonunion grievance procedures, and has written and lectured extensively on subjects related to human resource management, collective bargaining and the laws and regulations governing the hospitality industry.
She has consulted with both private and public organizations on auditing human resource management activities, setting up job evaluation plans, structuring compensation programs and carrying out annual wage surveys. Her present research activities focus on the impact of the ADA on employer accommodation, labor relations and due-process systems in unionized and nonunion settings, and the implications of culture on service quality.
