Research Interest

Cell transplantation (Master thesis internship at the Mediterranean Institute for Transplantation and High Specialization Therapies-University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) Stem Cell Biology (PhD in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, Prof. Ranieri Cancedda) in terms of in vivo fate and angio-progenitor recruitment. In particular, my research activity focused on developing a pro-angiogenic "cell free treatment" that has the ability to rescue different ischemic injuries through the recruitment of host reparative cells. This work was among the first of its rank to shift the conventional tissue engineering approach, providing exogenous tissues, to a new paradigm aimed at achieving an endogenous repair. Vascular biology and development (Yale Cardiovascular Research Center (YCVRC)). In particular, I studied the role of TGFβ and MMPs signaling in vasculogenesis, angiogenesis and maintenance of vascular integrity and specialization. Mechanobiology of angiogenesis (Chris Chen Lab at BU and Wyss-Harvard medical School).
