After receiving both his MD and PhD from the J.W. Goethe Medical School in Germany, Dr. Dickfeld was a resident in cardiovascular diseases at the Technical University of Munich, German Heart Institute. Following this, he came to Duke University Hospital, where he completed his residency in internal medicine. Most recently, Dr. Dickfeld completed both a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases and electrophysiology at Johns Hopkins University. The focus of Dr. Dickfeld’s clinical practice is cardiac electrophysiology, including radiofrequency ablation therapy for atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular tachycardia; implantable cardioverter- defibrillator and pacemaker implantation; and medical management of cardiac arrhythmias. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certifications in clinical cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Dickfeld’s research focus is in the field of cardiac arrhythmias. He has published more than 100 articles, book chapters and abstracts. His research has appeared in prestigious journals such as Cell, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Heart Rhythm. He currently serves as a reviewer for several medical journals such as Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Heart Rhythm and Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology and is an active member in a variety of professional societies.
