Dr. Valarmathi M. Thiruvanamalai received his M.B.B.S. in Medicine & Surgery from Kilpauk Medical College and M.D. in Pathology from Postgraduate Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Madras, Madras, India as well as Ph.D. in Biotechnology from All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. He was appointed as Assistant Professor in Department of Pathology in SRMC & RI (Deemed University), affiliated to Harvard Medical International, Madras, India. He received a Visiting Scientist Fellowship from National Cancer Institute (NCI) at National Institute of Health (NIH) and spent two year with Dr. Ira Pastan in Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), Centre for Cancer Research (CCR). At present he is working in University of South Carolina as Research Assistant Professor. His past research includes cancer genetics. Recently, he was the recipient of Scientist Development Grant Award from American Heart Association. He is serving as a member in various national and international scientific societies and organizations, ISSCR, TERMIS, AACR, ASIP and AHA.
Stem Cell Biology, Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, Biomaterials, Pathology. Currently his research focuses on creating vascularized tissue constructs using various types of adult and embryonic stem cells in three-dimensional (3-D) scaffolds that promise to lead to the generation of total replacement biologic products for various therapeutic purposes in regenerative medicine.
