Weili Yang obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2006 from the University of Western Ontario, Canada under the supervision of Professor Mark Bernards. She then joined the lab of Professor John Ohlrogge, Department of Plant Biology, Michigan State University to continue her research on the biosynthesis of plant surface lipids ¾ cutin and suberin.
