Wenshe R. Liu did his undergraduate study at Peking University and graduate work with Dr. Michael D. Toney at University of California-Davis, where he was trained in protein crystallography and enzymology. After receiving Ph.D. in 2005, he spent two years in Dr. Peter. G. Schultz’s group at the Scripps Research Institute as a postdoctoral researcher working on the genetic incorporation of unnatural amino acids into bacterial and mammalian cells. In 2007, he started his independent research group at Texas A&M University, Department of Chemistry.
His research interest is to design methods for the genetic incorporation of noncanonical amino acids into proteins in living cells and apply these methods in three major directions: deciphering functions of protein posttranslational modifications, small molecule sensing, and expanding chemical diversities of phage display libraries.
