Biography

Dr. Ohley holds the B.S.E.E. and the M.S.E.E., from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stony Brook University. He is presently Distinguished Professor of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. He has authored in excess of 100 scientific papers, proceedings, book chapters, and holds several U.S. patents. Currently he works in the area of cardiac assist and hypothermia based resuscitation. He has also worked full time in the medical device industry (Datascope Corp, Montvale, NJ) as well as in other academic settings (Worcester Polytechnic Institute). He is a recipient of a number of awards including the Society of Automotive Engineers Teetor Memorial Award, as well as the URI College of Engineering Faculty Excellence Award, the Eta Kappa Nu Appreciation Award, University of RI Intellectual Property Award, and Honor Roll of Harvard University’s BSCP. Dr. Ohley continues to serve as a reviewer for scientific journals, and NIH study sections He is a board member of the Tomaquag Indian Museum and Nuweetooun Education Center, Exeter, RI. During 1996 and again in 2003 he spent Sabbatical at the University of Orleans, France, Engineering School, Polytec, where he lectured in both French and English on medical devices. Dr. Ohley served as Department Chair from 1990-1999, and as President of the URI Chapter of the American Association of University Professors. Dr Ohley is also a founding member of Life Recovery Systems HD, LLC, Kinnelon, NJ, a start up medical device company.
