Dr. Yavuz DODURGA has received his PhD from Ege University Medical Faculty Department of Medical Biology and Genetics. After obtaining his PhD, he is now working in Pamukkale University Medical Faculty Department of Medical Biology and Genetics. I am a good team player, kind and considerate, and always willing to lend a hand. I have been supported with many awards and projects. I have focused on a novel gene which is name “Up Regulated Gene 4” to evaluate correlating with cancer. Satiroglu-Tufan (PhD advisor) and her colleagues, up-regulated expression of a new novel gene have been characterized in the presence of HBV X protein and it is called as “Up-Regulated-Gene-4 (URG4), Up-regulator of Cell Proliferation (URGCP)”. The full-length URG4 clone was 3.607 kb and encodes a polypeptide of 922 amino acids. Analysis of the novel full-length URG4 sequence showed no homology with other previously published genes and localized in the short arm of human chromosome 7 (7p13). In vitro cell culture experiments revealed that over-expression of URG4, transfected in HepG2 cells, increase the cell proliferation, in the presence or absence of growth factors, increase colony formation in soft agar and to accelerate the tumors formation in mice having suppressed immune system. The results of these experiments are characteristic functions of oncogenes, so it is thought that URG4 is a new potential oncogene, will play important role in multistep hepatocarcinogenesis.
