Poaching refers to the illegal hunting, killing, or capturing of wild animals, often for their valuable parts or products. This illegal activity has had devastating effects on wildlife populations around the world, with many species now threatened or endangered as a result of poaching. The motivations and tactics employed by poachers, the effects of poaching on wildlife populations and habitats, and the measures taken to stop this unlawful activity will all be covered in greater detail in this study.
Motivations for poaching
Poaching is driven by a variety of factors, including the demand for certain animal parts or products, such as ivory, rhino horn, or tiger bones, which are used in traditional medicines, as well as for decorative or cultural purposes. In addition to these motivations, poaching can also be driven by the desire for sport or trophy hunting, as well as for meat or other resources. The high demand and profitability of these illegal activities often makes them attractive to criminal organizations and individuals, who are willing to take risks in order to profit from them.
Methods used in poaching
