Understanding the different types of vitamins, their functions, and how to ensure adequate intake is key to optimizing your health. Vitamins are micronutrients that the body needs in tiny quantities to function properly. They are essential for a range of bodily processes, including metabolism, immune response, and cellular repair. Unlike macronutrients such as proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, vitamins do not provide energy but are vital for converting macronutrients into energy and supporting overall health. Vitamins are classified into two main categories: fat-soluble and water-soluble. Essential for vision, immune function, and skin health. It is found in foods like liver, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Deficiency can lead to vision problems, particularly night blindness. Important for bone health and calcium absorption. It is produced by the body in response to sunlight and is also found in fortified dairy products and fatty fish.
