Meningitis is an acute inflammation of meninges caused by bacterial, viral or fungal infection. Meningitis can also be caused by bleeding into the meninges, cancer, an inflammatory response to certain types of chemotherapy or other chemical agents. It focuses on causative agents, pathophysiology, etiology, preventive measures, treatment, management of meningitis, etc. Articles on bacterial meningitis, viral meningitis, fungal meningitis and diagnostic tests such as imaging, lumbar puncture and vaccines are also considered. Tuberculosis meningitis is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection of the meninges. It is characterized by fever, loss of appetite and headache. The bacteria crosses Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) from the lungs to cause meningitis.
