Military doctrine is the expression of how military forces contribute to campaigns, major operations, battles, and engagements. It is a guide to action, rather than hard and fast rules. Doctrine provides a common frame of reference across the military.it is the fundamental set of principles that guides military forces as they pursue national security objectives. RAND examines these principles. Concepts are proposals and the basis for experiments on conducting future operations whereas doctrine addresses how Army forces actually operate today. 1-8. Army professionals use doctrine in two contexts: study and reflection as well as conducting (planning preparing, executing, and assessing) operations.
