Considerable controversy exits regarding the nomenclature of mucinous neoplasms of the appendix. Appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (AMNs) are rare tumors accounting for less than 1% of all cancers. Appendiceal mucinous neoplasms include a heterogeneous group of diseases with varying malignant potential as reflected by different classification systems. Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) is a rare malignancy with symptoms varying depending on the clinical manifestations. The most worrisome complication of this particular neoplasm is seeding of mucin into the adjacent peritoneum leading to pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP).
