Semiconductor is a material which has an electrical conductivity value falling between that of a conductor and an insulator and whose resistance falls as the temperature rises. Its conducting properties can be altered by introducing impurities into the crystal structure; a process called ‘Doping’. Some examples of semiconductors include silicon, germanium and gallium arsenide. Silicon is the most commonly used semiconductor followed by gallium arsenide.
