Biography

Louise C. Abbott, a professor at Texas A&M University (TAMU), earned her PhD in Zoology from the University of Washington and her DVM from Washington State University. She is a professor of anatomy in the College of Veterinary Medicine at TAMU, where she teaches courses in histology, embryology, gross anatomy, neuroscience and developmental neurotoxicology to a range of students, including veterinary professional students, undergraduate students and graduate students. She currently holds a 3-year Thammon Professorship in Undergraduate Teaching excellence at TAMU. Dr. Abbott conducts research in two areas. The first area of research examines the effects of mercury toxicity on developing central nervous system, using a zebrafish animal model. Her second area of research is in connectomics and focuses on developing three-dimensional maps of the mammalian brain. She was a Fulbright Research Scholar in 1994.
