Abstract :

The aim of this study is to assess the antibacterial and antifungal activities of Kigelia Africana leaves extracts. The leaves were collected from Dalanj locality, South Kordufan State (2020). Dried under shade, grinded and extracted via ethanol and water. The percentage yields of an extract of the leaves were found to be 37. 96% and 25.64%. The extract has been tested against two gram –ve bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa Escherichia coli) and two gram positive (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus) and one fungi (Candida albicans) to assess their antimicrobial properties. All extracts possessed strong antimicrobial activity. The leaves of Kigelia africana extract via ethanol displayed the highest activity against bacterial strains. While, the concentration (12(μg/ml) was inactive against Candida albicans. The water extract was higher active against bacterial strains, accept the concentration (12(μg/ml) was inactive against Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. The study recommends that further studies to determine the effective ingredient for these leaves to know other benefits in folk medicine.
