With improving technology and skills among fetal sonographer the incidence of diagnosis of congenital cardiac defect in fetus is improving. This also poses dilemma for the sonographer and the obstetrician regarding further management of the fetus and counseling for the parents. A detail fetal echocardiogram and evaluation by pediatric cardiologist with counseling for the prognosis of the heart disease is important. The outline regarding prognosis and further management of fetal cardiac diseases will be discussed along with prenatal management and discussion on ductal dependent leasions.
Hetal Mehta completed MBBS from Bombay University followed by residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric cardiology from USA. She is American board certified in Pediatric cardiology and is currently practicing in Bangalore, India as consultant pediatric cardiologist.
