Food security is one of the most critical aspects around the world especially in developing countries. It is defined as the physical and economic access to food that meets peoples' dietary means as well as food preferences. The research objective was to assess the impact of food and nutrition policy on food security status of households. A cross sectional study was done using multistage sampling of households, frequencies, chi-square and odds ratio were used during analysis, food consumption score alongside copying strategies by households were used to determine food security status. Findings showed that food insecurity was at 31.66% out of 398 households, attributed to limited access to market information, early warning system, agricultural inputs and mechanisms alongside financial support. Similar to other research works, people need entitlements that enable them to command from the market, sustainable plans in relation to patterns and change on climate, promote environmental well-being through agricultural techniques to promote local foods, better management of resources to communities that are less privileged, alongside coherent and coordinated policies to accelerate the progress.
