Background- To determine the awareness and knowledge about VKC in caretakers of these children and factors effecting the compliance amongst parents visiting tertiary care hospital in North India. Methods- Parents/ caretakers visiting tertiary care hospital were administered questionnaire in children suffering from VKC. Questions related to knowledge seasonal variation, contagiousness of disease, compliance for eye drop administration, identification of topical eye drop, side effects related to eye drops and other difficulties faced in form of missing school were asked from parents along with noting socioeconomic status of parents. Results- A total of 56 parents were interviewed, of these 78% were compliant for treatment, 28% were not aware of side effect. Most common practice to identify topical medication was by colour and size of vial. Conclusion- There was a significant association (P= 0.010) between Socioeconomic status were most common factor affecting compliance.
Meenakshi Wadhwani is working as an assistant professor of ophthalmology in Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalya, Geeta Colony, New Delhi since 2018. She completed M.B.B.S. and M.S ophthalmology from the prestigious Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. She pursued her Pool officer ship (2013) and Ph.D. (2020) from Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi. Her Ph.D. topic was related to causes and prevalence of childhood visual impairment along with development of an age appropriate visual function questionnaire.
