Abstract :

Two of the most common categories of type 2 diabetes mellitus are DM1 and DM2. Which present two dangerous scenarios for patients with this disease. On the one hand hypoglycemia (blood glucose values below 70 mg/dl) and on the other hand hyperglycemia (blood glucose values greater than 180-200 mg/dl). Commonly these scenarios are caused by poor treatment due to incorrect assessment of the patient or by poor follow-up on medical indications. New treatments other than conventional ones would greatly help to improve the quality of life of patients. These approaches are carried out by means of artificial intelligence. Nature has generated biological systems from a process of evolution capable of overcoming real life problems. Nature-inspired computing or bio-inspired computing is an attempt to replicate the sophisticated biological mechanisms obtained from natural evolution such as robustness and adaptability. We discuss the state of the art of medical applications of bioinspired strategies and present an introduction to the use of Artificial Intelligence in diabetes mellitus with parametric estimation of physiological models, modeling, prediction and classification of diabetes types in computational systems. In addition, the most common physiological models are presented to represent various diabetes scenarios, using continuous glucose monitoring and oral glucose tolerance tests of real patients.

Biography :

Alonso Vaca González, doctor and master of sciences at the University of Guadalajara, has stood out from a very young age in multidisciplinary teaching and research, in branches such as microbiology, hematology, public health, neurosciences and occupational health. He has served as an evaluator of new products and treatments for diabetes mellitus in the private initiative, which allowed him to obtain tools and knowledge to join the research team of the Division of Technologies for Cyber-human Integration of the University of Guadalajara, advising the clinical aspects that feed Artificial Intelligence models. His passion has led him to obtain the “Irene Robledo García” 2020-2022 Social Service Award for his outstanding work at the "Villa Primavera" Voluntary Isolation Center for COVID-19.
