Abstract :

Alteration to the body that caused by breast cancer and cancer treatment affect the patient ability to learn to be motivated to self care, and to resume the role in the family, causing a conflict between the image that has been established over the time and current reality, for those women keeping their breast is very important. Aim: of the study was to examine the effect of breast surgeries on body image in women suffering from breast cancer. Methods: descriptive comparative research design was conducted in the surgical department at the Mansoura University Hospital. Convinces sample of this study composed of adult breast cancer women scheduled for breast surgeries were included in the study that corresponded to inclusion criteria. Results: of this study clearly indicate the benefits of breast conserving surgeries, on improvement of women�s body image. Conclusion: positive effect of breast conserving surgeries on improvement of women�s body image. Key words: breast cancer, body image, breast conserving surgeries, mastectomy.
