Abstract :

Eye pain can occur on the surface of the eye or within the eyeâ??s deeper structures. Severe eye pain especially accompanied by any degree of vision loss may be a signal of a serious medical condition. Eye pain that is on the surface of the eye might be described as itching, burning or shooting pain. Surface eye pain is often related to a foreign object in your eye, an eye infection, or anything that irritates or inflames the membrane covering the surface of the eyes. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that the use of earrings can be a causative factor of eye pain. The methodology of this study was based on the literature regarding auricular acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as a brief evaluation of the causative factors of eye pain in Western medicine. Auricular acupuncture map was used to demonstrate the location of the organs according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. Two case reports were also used. Both cases were from patients with ocular pain at the time of the consultation or acupuncture session. Both patients had the use od earrings in common. There was almost immediate improvement of ocular pain symptoms after removal of the earrings bilaterally. The use of earrings, which are usually above the eye point, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, could be the cause of eye pain, based on these two clinical reports.
