Introduction: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) is a rare form of acute cardiomyopathy characterized by left ventricular apical ballooning. It was first described in Japan in 1990 by Sato et al. Patients are often present with chest pain, ST-segment elevation on electrocardiography (ECG) with elevated cardiac enzyme levels in consistency with myocardial infarction (MI). We report here five cases of Takosubo cardiomyopathy presented to a general district hospital during the period of eight weeks. Abstract: The epidemiological features of TCM have changed significantly, previously the main risk factor was physical and emotional distress however recently unknown precipitating factors have been reported, TCM were considered extremely rare until the past 20 years. It is estimated that patients with TCM accounted for approximately 2% of all the patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome1.According to a case report, the majority of the patients were women (93.5%). Asians were the largest group (57.2%) followed by Caucasians (40%). The presentations mimic an acute myocardial infarction. The most frequent presenting symptom was chest pain (65.9%) followed by dyspnoea (16.2%). ST elevation was the most common ECG abnormality (87.5%). Contrary to most reports, this is not a benign disease with complications occurring in 18.9% and death in 3.2%. The most common complication was shock followed by left ventricular thrombus formation and congestive heart failure.
