Background: Corneal ulcer is an emergency condition in ophtalmology, causing visual impairment, mostly by bacterial infection with rapid pathogenesis. The aim of this study was to know the characteristics of bacterial corneal ulcer patients in Cicendo National Eye Center Hospital Bandung. Methods: This was a descriptive study by using medical records and the subjects were patients with bacterial corneal ulcer hospitalized / treated in Cicendo National Eye Center Hospital Bandung during January to December 2011. Results: During the study period, there were 99 cases met inclusion criteria from 203 cases. Male : female ratio was 2 : 1, with mean age of 44,4 years. The most common symptom was eye pain. Common predisposing factors include trauma. Single-bacterial infection and gram-positive cocci were predominant. Conclusions: Incidence of bacterial type was 48.8%. Most came with mild severity, with central location, and poor visual function.
