Abstract :

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical features of treatment-free polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) eyes without recurrence over one year.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients who had been diagnosed with PCV and treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor monotherapy. Patients who did not receive treatment over one year after initial monthly loading injections (stable group, 29 eyes) and received multiple treatments due to active lesion (control group, 30 eyes) were included. The baseline characteristics including OCT and ICGA findings were analyzed and compared between groups.

Results: Treatment free eyes (stable group) showed better final visual outcome, smaller size of great linear dimension and lesser number of polyps at baseline compared with control group. Multiple regression analysis revealed that smaller size of great linear dimension and lesser number of polyps at baseline were associated with treatment-free eyes over one year.

Conclusion: PCV eyes with smaller lesion size and single polyp show no recurrence over 1 year after initial monthly loading injections. Patients exhibiting these features may be expected to show benign course during follow up.
