Abstract :

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of trifocal intraocular lenses (IOL) following femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery at 3 months follow up. Methods: 40 eyes of 20 cataract patients were included in this study. Anterior capsulotomy, lens fragmentation and corneal incision were created by femtosecond laser (LenSx® Laser System: Alcon). The eyes with corneal astigmatism of less than 1 D received trifocal IOL (POD F: PhysIOL) and the eyes with corneal astigmatism over 1 D received trifocal toric IOL (POD FT: PhysIOL).Visual acuities (VAs) of distance, intermediate and near, contrast sensitivity and spectacle dependency were evaluated at 3 months postoperatively. Results: Mean uncorrected distance VA was -0.05±0.12 logMAR, VA at 70 cm was 0.05±0.12 logMAR, VA at 50 cm was 0.10±0.14 logMAR and VA at 40 cm was 0.10±0.17 logMAR. Mean contrast sensitivities were within normal range. None of the patients required spectacles. Conclusion: Implantation of trifocal IOL following the femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery provides preferable VAs from distance to near and provides spectacle independency.
