Statement of the problem: Neck pain is the most prevalent disorder in working population. It is commonly experienced from the region of the base of the skull at ear level to the upper part of the back or shoulder. Female nurses suffer from neck pain due to incorrect posture and prolonged standing. Purpose of study: Neck pain is the fourth primary reason of disability. Neck pain and nurses are connected following of continuous standing for longer duration with no intervals to stretch the muscles of neck. Hence, to compare the combined effect therapeutic ultrasound and trigger point release with trigger point alone in alleviating neck pain and improving functional disabilities in female nurses the study was conducted. Methodology: 14 female participants with neck pain of age 20-40 years were recruited in the study after fulfilling the inclusion criteria. These were then randomized to one of the two interventions, (i) Ultrasound therapy with trigger point release (n=7) (ii) Trigger point release (n=7). The intervention duration was for 2 days and 2 treatment sessions. Pre and post treatment measures was accessed with goniometer for cervical range of motion, Visual analogue scale for pain intensity, Neck disability index questionnaire at baseline and after 2 days of intervention. Findings: The results of the study highlight the significant improvement (p<0.05) that was found in therapeutic ultra sound and trigger point release. Conclusion: The therapeutic ultra sound combined to trigger point release provides clinical and statistical improvement in outcome variable Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Neck disability index (NDI) and Cervical ROM. Hence comes up as contribution for treatment of neck pain.
