Introduction: Congenital cataract is a clouding of the lens which occurred during the intrauterine development of the child or immediately after the birth. Surgical treatment is the only therapeutical option in these patients. Aim: To analyze the effects of the surgery in relation to the age of patients, type of the cataract and the visual acuity outcome. Material: During the last four years 19 children, aged 4 months to 10 years, 6 bilateral and 13 monocular congenital cataract (25 eyes) undergone surgeries. Phacoemulsification and IOL implantation is the method of choice in the surgery of congenital cataracts. The children were postoperatively followed up from the first day, seventh day, one month, three months and six months postoperatively, given appropriate adjustments close. Results: The value of visual acuity of 0.40 and above was achieved in more than 50% of the patients. Time of the surgery considered to be the most important factor in the early rehabilitation of the visual acuity. Conclusion: Early detection and early surgical treatment of the congenital cataracts is the most important factor for the developing of normal vision.
