Significant changes occur in the female body during pregnancy and post-partum, some of which profoundly influence the skin, hair, and breasts. In this presentation, I will describe the biological changes in pigmentation, skin elasticity, and hair growth during gestation and post-partum. These would explain the formation of striae gravidarum (pregnancy stretch marks), hyperpigmentation, alteration in normal hair cycle (leading to post-partum hair shedding), etc. Cosmetic changes in the breast (with and without implants) will be discussed. Cosmetic interventions during pregnancy should be altered compared to the non- gravid state. In addition, myths about skin changes and potential treatment should be dispelled.
