The present study was undertaken to uncover the possible role of oxidative stress in cataract patient. Based on study was conducted on the lenses of 60 individual between age group 50 to 80 years distributed in two groups Group I=Nuclear cataract -30 subjects & group II cortical cataract -30 subjects. The level of protein carbonyl in nuclear &cortical cataract are significantly increased.as compared to controls (p 0.001) and total thiol (-SH) in nuclear & cortical cataract were depleted significantly when compared to control .from the present observation it is evident that scarcity of nutrients which are part of antioxidant defense were decreased resulting in oxidative stress lead to cataract formation.
